Camp AmeriKids is offered for FREE to the families.

We serve traditional camp fare and are mindful of any allergies our campers may have.

The mission of Camp AmeriKids is to enhance the lives of youth living with the challenges of HIV/AIDS and sickle cell disease by providing an enriching summer camp experience, year-round skill building and a supported transition to adulthood.

The camp is offered at no cost to the families and recruits campers from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The goals of the program are to develop independence, friendship and self-confidence through the building of new skills and increased abilities.

Program Overview:
It is AmeriCares' firm conviction that children, regardless of their economic, social and medical situation, should have the opportunity to experience the carefree, summertime joys of childhood. Camp AmeriKids provides a free camping experience for children between the ages of 8-14, and a year round Leader in Training (LIT) program for adolescents between the ages of 16-17 who have attended our camp.

Although the main objective of Camp AmeriKids is fun, the primary focus is safety. Each camper's physical and emotional health is taken into consideration to ensure that daily activities do not exceed his or her capabilities.

Camp AmeriKids is able to provide sophisticated and unobtrusive medical care within the camp environment. In order to staff the camp infirmary 24 hours a day, one doctor and 8-10 nurses reside on the grounds while camp is in session.

Camp AmeriKids draws its camper population from several social service agencies throughout the tri-state area. Last summer, 250 children attended Camp AmeriKids during two eight-day sessions. For eight wonderful days, these campers were able to put aside their health and family problems and focus on having fun and just being kids. Each unforgettable day of camp allowed for very special children to participate in a number of new and exciting activities that included Arts & Crafts, Woodshop, Sports, Swimming and Drama. On special theme days such as Carnival Day, campers were able to enjoy a generous helping of cotton candy or the chance to win prizes at their favorite carnival booth.
