Camp Yakety Yak is a unique day camp experience for children!
-- Campers participate in social-emotional skill classes (similar to private speech therapy) and practice the skills they have learned throughout all camp activities.
-- Camp Yakety Yak has nearly a 1:1 staff-to-camper ratio! We have a wonderful group of skilled volunteers to support campers.
-- Neurotypical siblings are welcome! We offer special activities for siblings of campers with special needs.

There are 4 camp week sessions planned for the summer of 2023.

Camper Hours: 10:00am-3:00pm, weekdays
Camper Orientation Meeting: TBD (at camp location)
Camp Fee: $639 for Campers with Special Needs, $150 for Neurotypical Siblings, and Peers*

*Price difference due to the increased staff training, clinical supervision requirements, ongoing professional support, and written communication to families provided for children with special needs.

Partial, needs-based scholarships may be available.

Campers may engage in cooking activities. All special diets will be honored at camp and the staff will work with parents to provide ingredients so the child can participate in the activity. Children bring their own water, snack and lunch each day.

Camp Yakety Yak (CYY) is designed by therapeutic & educational professionals for children age 6-11 to develop social communication & emotional regulation skills in an inclusive day camp setting. CYY also serves as a training site for future educational or therapeutic professionals. We partner with Portland State University's Speech & Hearing Sciences Department and Pacific University to offer a clinical practicum site for undergraduate and graduate students wishing to become speech-language pathologists. We also happily accept volunteers from other college programs and local high schools.

Each camp session week meets daily 10:00am-3:00pm. Campers attend 5 classes per day in small teams. Many college volunteers serve as leaders of the group or one-to-one assistants to individual campers. Graduate students and Masters level instructors teach the classes with the support and supervision of certified speech-language pathologists and other therapeutic/educational professionals.

Campers with special needs attend a Camper Orientation Meeting one week prior to camp so they can tour the facility and meet the staff. This meeting allows the staff to learn more about the child, as well.
